  • Folding mushroom knife, 8 cm: The inward-curved blade folds safely into the handle - ideal for pocket and mushroom basket.
  • Gentle harvesting: The curved edge cuts the mushroom cleanly at the stem, leaving the mycelium in the ground.
  • Stainless steel: The blade bears the engraving STAINLESS STEEL and copes well with damp forest soil and wet leaves.
  • Safe handling: Nail nick for opening; when closed, the edge lies completely between the handle scales.
  • Traditional Solingen model: Sapelli wood handle with brass rivet, made in Italy, finished in Solingen.

The Folding Mushroom Knife 8 cm from F. HERDER is the handy companion for mushroom foraging. The 8 cm inward-curved blade folds safely into the sapelli wood handle – so the knife fits in any jacket or trouser pocket and in every mushroom basket.

The blade shape follows the classic hawkbill: the inward-curved edge with its raised tip draws the material into the blade as you cut. This lets you sever the mushroom cleanly and with control at the stem instead of tearing it out of the ground – the mycelium stays in the forest soil. The curved blade is also practical for cleaning and trimming stems right where you find them.

The blade is made of stainless steel and bears the engraving STAINLESS STEEL. With damp forest soil, morning dew and wet leaves, this is a real advantage: the knife forgives you if it is not dried immediately after use.

The nail nick on the spine makes the knife easy to open. When closed, the cutting edge disappears completely between the handle scales, so it can be carried safely. The warm sapelli wood handle is riveted and pivots on a brass rivet at the joint. Besides mushroom foraging, the folding knife is also useful in the garden, on hikes and for harvesting herbs – and makes a lovely gift for mushroom pickers.

The blade bears the engraving Friedr. Herder Abr. Sohn, the spade symbol with the lettering PIKAS and the series lettering Don Carlos. The mushroom knife is a traditional Solingen model: today it is made by friendly knife makers in Italy and then finished by us in Solingen – with the quality standard that has distinguished F. HERDER since 1727.

After foraging, remove soil, sand and mushroom residue from the blade and joint. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth, briefly rinse the joint under warm water if needed and dry everything thoroughly before folding it closed. Although the blade is stainless, the knife should not be stored damp in the mushroom basket or in your pocket. Please do not put it in the dishwasher.

A drop of oil in the joint keeps the folding mechanism running smoothly. The sapelli wood handle can be treated with a wood care oil when needed to preserve its natural beauty.
